Gentleman (1993) is a Tamil film directed by S. Shankar, released on the 13th July 1993. The film marked S. Shankar's debut in film, and with the highest budget for an Indian film in 1993, became a blockbuster upon release. It stars Arjun and Madhoo in the lead roles. The film's music (score and soundtrack) is composed by A. R. Rahman, and it was very well received upon release. The choreography in the film was also viewed as a highlight.

Movie Info:

A story of modern day Robin Hood who takes from the rich to provide education for the poor. Kicha (Arjun) is a respected person in his local community and runs a small business. But Kicha, unknown to anyone, is a notorious robber, He is accompanied by his friend Mani (Goundamani). He has stolen millions of rupees from many victims. The home minister and police is adamant to catch this mystery robber yet are unsuccessful. Madhoo a simple brahmin girl working under him falls for him.

Charan Raj is an efficient Police officer who takes charge to nab Kichaa, at one instance Charan Raj challenges to catch him and makes a foolproof plan. But Kichha still escapes and which results in tonsuring Charan Raj head. Later Charan Raj gets married to the cousin of Madhoo, which leads him closer in identifying Kichaa. But kichaa still escapes with help of his friend.

Kichaa makes one final robbery as planned and once he makes it Charan Rajarrests him. He has spent all the theft money to build a college and School for poor children. At courtroom he reveals the reasons of his Robinhood Avatar with a very strong flashback. But there is a story behind Kicha robbing from the greedy politicians and government, one that started with a tragedy in his family resulting in the death of his mother (Manorama) and brother Ramesh (Vineeth).

The film revolves around two thieves, Kadir and Azhagu (Anand and Prashanth), and their friend Rajathi (Heera Rajgopal) who're on the run from police who believe they're behind a huge robbery. Depicts the life of a young farmer who has lived life to his fullest and made others live it too. He faces the facts; he is fat and obnoxiously so. They know him as the fat one; that many a pink girl in half saris laugh at and wouldn't even dream of having to live with as a wife. His mother; an old and dying woman wishes for but to see her son happily wedded before she breathes her last. Finally, things seem to be falling into place, with a beautiful country girl that agrees to marriage but later, tells him of her love for another man. Heartbroken, he agrees to wreck the marriage, post which his mother hates him and dies in pain. He is ridiculed as the one that killed his own mother with his foolish acts. They cuss him and tell him that he would burn on a pyre of wet twigs. He cries to a local school teacher, who takes pity on him. She tells him of how one ought to look at the heart and not what forms outside it. Flesh. Blood. It's all but physical entities. But it's the heart that beats truly. She wipes his tears and teaches him life. Awesome rendition of songs by SPB, Shahul Hameed and Chitra. The music lives on in the thoughts of people who know that it isn't true that A.R.Rahman only made Roja before he Dil Se.

Yodha is a Malayalam language film produced in India in 1992,debut in Tamil as Ashokan. The film was written and directed by Sangeeth Sivan and is based on The Golden Child.

The movie stars the Malayalam superstar Mohanlal as Ashokan, who is a village fellow who is always in competition with his cousin Appukkuttan played by the comedy actor Jagathi Sreekumar. Urvashi and Madhoo, play the lead female roles. The movie goes on as Ashokan is sent to Nepal to meet his uncle as an astrologer predicts that if he stays at home, he will commit a murder. Once there, he finds that Appukuttan has already reached there claiming that he was Ashokan. There, he loses his luggage and is shunned off to streets where he is joined by the Rinpoche, the Sacred Boy of one of the monasteries, who escaped from his tormentors. The evil forces try to kidnap the child, and Mohanlal is drawn into the fight.

The film is an intricate mix of comedy and action.

This is the only malayalam film which has music composed by A.R.Rahman

Roja (1992) is a Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie was subsequently dubbed in other Indian languages, catapulting Mani Ratnam to national acclaim. This film's score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rahman, who debuted in this movie. This soundtrack is among the All Time Top 10 soundtracks listed by TIME magazine, issued in 2005.

Roja was dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, and Telugu. The film was recently re-released for international audiences in light of the growing fear of terrorist attacks the world over. It is considered as the one of the best films from Indian film industry stable from the 90s.



Movie Info:

Roja revolves around one Man's love for his motherland and a wife's unfailing love for her husband. Roja (Madhoo) is a village girl, born and brought up in Sundarapandianpuram in Tirunelveli district in Southern Tamil Nadu. She prays that the handsome suitor and top cryptologist Rishi (Arvind Swamy), arriving in the village soon, accepts a proposal to get married to her sister. It soon emerges that Roja's sister is in love with another, and to everyone's surprise Rishi requests Roja's hand in marriage. Roja gets married to Rishi, and the couple move out of the village to live in the city. They both fall in love here, and settle down. Working for the Indian Government, Rishi is assigned a posting at an army communications center in Kashmir. Roja's world is shattered when Rishi is abducted by militant Kashmiri separatists who demand the release of their terrorist leader Wasim Khan from prison, held by Indian military forces. Roja pleads with politicians and the military for help, but she has little success. The film is set against the backdrop of the longstanding struggle between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, an issue that is still in the melting pot.
